Coupons (Promotion codes)

Coupons and promotion codes let you offer checkout discounts for eligible tickets, packages, event categories, or online store merchandise.

To use this feature, use the Control Panel -> Events & Venues -> Coupons and create a new promotion.

Event: Choose where the coupon applies: all events, one event, a package, or a specific event category. To use a category, edit the applicable events and enter the same category name on each event. Then choose "Specific Category" on the coupon and enter that category name.

Online store merchandise: Use this option when the same coupon should also apply to merchandise, food and drink, or gift cards sold through the online store.

Promotion code: Enter a short, unique code that buyers can enter at checkout. Promotion codes can be up to 25 characters.

Automatically apply this coupon on checkout: If this option is checked, eligible buyers do not have to enter the code. The coupon is applied automatically when the cart meets the coupon rules. Only one promotion code can apply to an invoice.

Promotion type: Choose the discount type: buy-one-get-one, buy-two-get-one, percentage, amount per invoice, or amount per ticket. Percentage and amount discounts require a discount value greater than zero. Buy-one-get-one and buy-two-get-one discounts do not use the discount amount field.

Date range: Fill out the date range when the coupon is valid.

Must buy all the events that this coupon applies to: Use this option when a coupon should apply only if the buyer purchases every event in the selected category or package.

Different-event requirement: Use this option when the buyer must purchase tickets for more than one eligible event, but not necessarily every event.

Minimum and maximum order value: Use these fields to limit the coupon to eligible ticket or item totals within a certain value range.

Minimum and maximum ticket price: Use these fields to limit the coupon to certain ticket prices or ticket types.

Minimum and maximum number of tickets: Use these fields for rules such as group discounts, complimentary-ticket limits, or discounts that apply only up to a certain number of eligible tickets.

Maximum usage: You can limit how many invoices may use the coupon across all buyers. You can also limit how many times each buyer may use the coupon.

Editing a used coupon: If a coupon has already been used on an invoice, you can still edit it. Changes to the discount or who can use the coupon create a new coupon version for future orders and keep the old coupon for past invoices. The old coupon code is renamed with an "old" marker and expired. Other changes update the same coupon directly.

Deleting a coupon: If a coupon has never been used, deleting it removes it. If it has already been used, deleting it archives the coupon instead: the code is renamed with a "del" marker and the coupon is expired for future orders, while past invoices keep their original coupon history.

Adding Promotion Codes To the URL: You can add the promotion code to any URL of your site to make it automatically apply on the checkout page. This allows you to create links or even QR codes with certain promotion. Simply add the query string coupon=[the promotion word] to your URL.

For example: https://blog.ticketor.com?coupon=friends

Coupon effectiveness report: Use Control Panel > Reports > Coupons to evaluate marketing and promotion-code usage. The report shows each coupon code, how many invoices used it, the number of individual tickets sold on those invoices, the total discount given, and the total amount spent. You can filter it by date range, coupon, and buyer, and you can print or export the results.
